References and Citation Style

TPHJ uses the Vancouver style with numbered citations. Within the text, references should be cited using Arabic numerals in the order in which they first appear, usually in square brackets or as superscripts, and the same number is used whenever that source is cited again. The reference list at the end of the manuscript should list all cited sources in numerical order corresponding to their first mention in the text.

Journal articles should include the surnames and initials of all authors when there are up to six authors; if there are more, list the first six followed by “et al.”, followed by the full article title, the abbreviated journal title, year of publication, volume number, issue number if applicable and inclusive page numbers, along with the DOI when available. Books should include authors or editors, book title, edition, place of publication, publisher and year. Book chapters should cite the chapter authors, chapter title, book editors, book title, place of publication, publisher, year and page range. Websites should include the responsible organisation or author, title or description, the URL and the date of access. Authors are responsible for ensuring that all references are accurate, complete and correctly formatted.
